Two Reasons Why People Hate The Bible

For centuries, the Bible has attracted unique attention. Over the years, dictators and other powerful men within government have done their best to gather every Bible within their borders and burn them. The Catholic church has burned men alive for simply translating the Bible into English, putting God's word into a language understood by the common man. Today, you can walk around public with any book in your hand and no one will care or even take notice... but, if you walk around with a Bible, you will draw the attention of those who pass by.
Why does the Bible get so much attention?
Why has so much effort gone into keeping it out of people's hand?
Why do people hate the Bible?
Well, here are two main reasons that come to mind...

1) Because It's True
People want options. They want their opinion to matter. They want to sit down, weigh out the possibilities, and determine what works best for them. In doing so, every option is seen as equally true and it's up to us to determine which we prefer... but, that's not how the Bible works. That's not how absolute truth works.
When you have absolute truth, there are no options. There is nothing else to consider. It no longer makes sense to weigh out all of the different possiblities because then we would be comparing truth with opinions. When we are dealing with truth, the decision as to what we should do is already made. Truth ignores pop culture, political correctness, personal feelings, and it doesn't change with time. It's just true. Since the Bible is perfect truth, life's biggest decisions are already decided.
How do you get to heaven?
How do you have a good marriage?
How do you raise your children?
How do manage your finances?
What is the purpose of life?
The Bible tells us the truth about each of these topics. Now, we can be rebellious, ignore God's word, and do our own thing, but that doesn't make our choice perfect, right, or true. When the Bible is clear on a topic, there is no reason to consider other possibilities. The world has always hated absolute truth. Instead, they encourage people to "Follow your heart" or "Do what makes you happy." The Bible doesn't simply offer advice. It claims God's authority over our lives. Many people reject it because they want to be their own authority.
Today, God has given us absolute truth. What will you do with it?

2) Because It's Exclusive
When you consider all of the world's different religions, denominations, movements, and personal ideas, there are said to be thousands of ways to heaven. These various ways to reach heaven include things like joining a particular religion, doing good works, keeping certain spiritual laws, reincarnation leading to enlightenment, and universalism (the belief that everyone will be saved). Many of these different religions believe that they are just one of many ways to get to heaven.
In ancient India, a parable described this idea as a blind man who found an elephant and worshipped it. Since he was blind, his knowledge of the elephant was limited to what he had touched. Since he had only touched the trunk, he worshipped the elephant as a trunk. Another blind man was behind the elephant and worshipped the elephant as a tail. Another on side worshipped the elephant as a leg. They claimed that this is a picture of all the different religions worshipping the same God from different angles and perspectives.
Scripture rejects this idea. There is only one God. There is only one way to heaven. There is only one true path. It's inclusive in that all are welcome, but it's exclusive in that only those who come will go to heaven. People have a hard time with that truth.
They see devout Muslim men and women who are giving their whole life to Allah. They see faithful Catholics show up to mass and truly believe that they are consuming Jesus through the Eucharist. They see Native American tribes perform their rituals and claim to speak to their ancestors. They see all of these things, and their heart goes out to them. They think, "Surely, as devout as all of these people are in their faith/religion, they are going to heaven." But, devotion isn't the standard to enter heaven. Being fully committed to a lie doesn't make it true. The Bible is exclusive because it claims to provide the only way to heaven. There is no other way.
John 14:6 - “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Pick up a Bible today and read it. Take your time to study it, soak it in, and follow it. Lay your pride aside and trust what it says over your own ideas and opinions. It will change your life for the better.
It's true and it's the only way!
